Jim Sorem, Ph.D. is Dean of The University of Tulsa's (TU) College of Engineering & Natural Sciences and Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He earned his B.S. (1978), M.S. (1981), and Ph.D. (1985) degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Kansas. His areas of academic specialty include solid mechanics, machine design, computer aided design, residual stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.
Before joining TU's faculty, Dr. Sorem was Design Engineer/MAPICS Implementation Manager at GASO Pumps in Tulsa (1984-1985). He is a registered Professional Engineer and a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), the Oklahoma EPSCoR Committee, the Governor's Research and Development Expert Panel, and the TUCoRE Decision Review Board. He also serves as Director of Oklahoma's Center for Aircraft and Systems/Support Infrastructure (CASI - the statewide center for aviation support) and of the Integrated Petroleum Environmental Consortium (IPEC).
